Who we are

Folio brings together people and knowledge to build a new model of tropical grain agriculture. The Institute is a non-profit science and technology organization created to promote regenerative and organic agriculture based on grains, through the systematization and dissemination of knowledge and the development of a new tropical agronomic model.

Founder and Chief Executive Officer

Luis Barbieri

He is a co-founding partner of Raiar Orgânicos, one of the country’s largest organic protein companies, and the founder of Instituto Folio. He holds a degree in Production Engineering from UFSCar and built his career at the multinational Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), where he served as Head of Grain Merchandising Operations in Brazil. He was also responsible for implementing grain operations in China and India for the same company.

Chief Operating Officer

Anita Martins

She holds a degree in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Viçosa. She worked for ten years in the private sector, where she deepened her understanding of Brazilian agribusiness. She worked as a cotton lint and soybean oil trader at Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), served as Sales Manager and Innovation and Projects Specialist in the beverage sector at Ambev, and later coordinated a strategic project for sugarcane mills at Raízen.

Chief Financial Officer

João Dourado

He is an executive with more than 18 years of experience in finance, corporate governance, and strategic management. He has served on Boards of Directors and Finance and Audit Committees, with strong leadership skills, experience in team development, and in structuring operational policies and processes. He has worked in large companies in the infrastructure, construction, ESG, and food sectors, with a strong focus on finance, controllership, and corporate management.

Director of Communications

Bettina Barros

She is a journalist with a degree from Fundação Cásper Líbero and holds a postgraduate degree in Behavioral Economics from FIA. She worked in radio and television and contributed to several media outlets between 1997 and 1999 in Europe and the Middle East. She has received four awards for sustainability and agriculture from the newspaper Valor Econômico. Since 2019, she has been dedicated to communicating projects in the new agriculture, with a focus on sustainability and innovation.

Project Analyst

Maurílio Souza

He holds a degree in Agroindustry Technology from Fatec Capão Bonito and a degree in Biosystems Engineering from the Federal Institute of São Paulo (IFSP). He has expertise in agricultural microbiology and food quality control, with a focus on research into the use of agro-industrial residues for plant fertilization, as well as the formulation of low-cost culture media for the propagation of Bacillus thuringiensis.

Field Technician

Matheus Aleixo

He is an agronomist graduated from the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). He works as a field technician at Folio, as part of the Tropical Transition project, developed in partnership with FELS at the Lagoa do Sino Farm School. He works with sustainable production systems, with a focus on organic regenerative management applied to large-scale crops, especially soybeans and corn.

Rosana Santos

She holds a degree in Business Administration, with a specialization in Human Resources. She built her professional career in the Treasury area, where she developed solid experience in financial management, cash flow planning, and internal controls.

Advisory Board

Our board is composed of agriculture specialists with diverse backgrounds and perspectives, which enriches our work and helps us move more quickly toward our purpose of redirecting Brazilian grain production toward an organic regenerative model.

Felipe Alves

Engenheiro de Minas com mestrado pela Colorado School of Mines, tem mais de 20 anos de liderança no setor privado e em associações setoriais. Foi o primeiro presidente da Comissão Brasileira de Recursos e Reservas e é Sócio Presidente do Grupo Frontera, atuante em fertilizantes, mineração e transição energética. Fundou a Morro Verde Fertilizantes, maior produtora de adubos fosfatados orgânicos do Brasil, e é cofundador e Diretor Geral da Fundação Brasil Meu Amor.

Marcelo Behar

Advogado e especialista em políticas públicas, atua como Consultor Sênior do WBCSD e do CEBDS para a COP30. Foi Vice-Ministro de Assuntos Estratégicos e líder da Campanha Federal de Desarmamento. Tem 15 anos de experiência executiva em sustentabilidade, com passagens por CSN e Natura. Cofundou a Ambition Loop Brasil e coordena o Fórum de Governança Climática da FGV-SP. Integra conselhos do Instituto Ethos e o WWF-Brasil.

Ludmila Rattis

Doutora em Ecologia pela UNICAMP, com doutorado sanduíche na Carleton University (Canadá) e bolsa CAPES, é mestre em Entomologia pela USP Ribeirão Preto e bióloga pela UEMG. É pesquisadora no Instituto de Pesquisa Ambiental da Amazônia (IPAM) e cientista no Woodwell Climate Research Center, em Massachusetts (EUA). Sua pesquisa foca nos efeitos da paisagem sobre o clima, a produção de alimentos e a biodiversidade. Em 2018, recebeu o Prêmio Marcio Ayres da ABECO pelo melhor artigo publicado na Perspectives in Ecology and Conservation.

Plínio Ribeiro

Plínio Ribeiro é cofundador e CEO da Biofílica Ambipar Environment, empresa pioneira no desenvolvimento de projetos de carbono no Brasil. Também é cofundador da Aliança Brazil NBS, que reúne desenvolvedores comprometidos com um mercado de créditos de carbono de alta integridade ambiental. Membro cofundador do Instituto Escolhas e líder do comitê de sustentabilidade da Sociedade Rural Brasileira, é formado em Administração pelo INSPER e mestre em Administração Pública e Meio Ambiente pela Universidade de Columbia e pelo Earth Institute (EUA).

Marcus Menoita

Marcus Menoita é sócio-fundador e CEO da Raiar Orgânicos. Com mais de 25 anos de experiência no setor de logística e armazenamento de grãos, foi fundador e CEO da NovaAgri, empresa adquirida pelo grupo Toyota em 2015. Empreendedor por natureza, decidiu aplicar sua experiência em gestão e inovação ao setor de alimentos sustentáveis, criando a Raiar, a maior produtora de ovos orgânicos do Brasil  — mesmo sem nunca ter tido uma galinha antes.

Natália Dias

Com 30 anos de experiência em banco de investimentos, atuou no Brasil, EUA, Inglaterra e África. Foi Diretora de Mercado de Capitais do BNDES, liderando também as áreas de Captação, Internacional, RI e Reestruturação de Crédito. Entre 2012 e 2023, foi Diretora de Energia e Infraestrutura para a América Latina e, posteriormente, CEO do Standard Bank Brasil e membro do Comitê Executivo do Standard Bank International. É conselheira na Iguá Saneamento e Future Climate, e atua como pesquisadora-sênior do Núcleo África do CEBRI.

É produtor rural de Goiás, membro do GAAS e um dos fundadores da Katu.

Murillo Luchese

He is an Agronomist (UFMT) with a specialization in Agribusiness Management (UFV) and has 17 years of experience at Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC), working in Market Intelligence, Grain Origination, and Input Trading. Over the past four years, as Director of Commercial Operations, Supply, and Implementations at Sirentz Agro Brasil, he was responsible for Risk Management, grain and fertilizer logistics, ESG implementation, and strategic projects such as irrigation, integrated crop-livestock systems (ICLS), cotton, seeds, and biofactories. Since 2021, he has served as an Advisor to Grão Direto, supporting digitalization and the use of artificial intelligence in grain trading.
